We understand the importance of family here at Family Dentistry Rick Redmond, DMD—that’s why the word is literally in our name! Not only will our team treat you like family at every appointment, but we’ll extend the same quality of service and care to your children as well. Our team has years of experience treating children of all ages, ensuring your child will enjoy relaxing appointments and healthy smiles every time they come to see us.
Your child should start seeing a dentist on a regular basis as soon as their first teeth appear. At their very first appointment, Dr. Redmond will just give them a gentle exam to make sure everything is developing correctly. As your child matures, their care will change to match their needs, adding treatments like cleanings and dental sealants to their regular appointments. Our goal with every child is to prevent cavities and guide their oral development, all the while ensuring they feel completely comfortable at every visit.
Out of all the teeth, the ones in the back are the most likely to develop cavities due to their location and grooved surfaces that easily trap plaque. This is especially true for children, but we can keep these vulnerable teeth protected by covering them with a dental sealant. We simply apply a thin coat of composite resin to the chewing surfaces of the teeth, and it quickly hardens into a barrier that plaque, food particles, and bacteria cannot cross.
Regular exposure to fluoride is great for smiles of any age, but it is particularly helpful for children due to their increased risk for cavities. Plus, it can also aid in the development of the adult teeth even before they come in. At your child’s routine checkups, we can briefly coat their teeth with a fluoride gel to strengthen their enamel and reverse the early stages of decay so they can stay cavity-free between appointments.
Do you have a little athlete at home? Want to make sure their teeth end a game in the same condition that it started? Then we recommend investing in a custom-made mouthguard from Dr. Redmond. It will not only keep their teeth safe from unexpected impacts better than a generic mouthguard, but it will also allow for unencumbered speaking and breathing thanks to a personalized fit. This will make your child much more likely to use it and enjoy the benefits, giving you one less thing to worry about whenever they go out to play!
